Welcome To The Daughters of Saint Dominic

We are a new community established in the Diocese of Steubenville, Ohio, under the authority of the current Bishop.

Our spirituality follows that of Saint Dominic whose calling was to spearhead the spiritual renewal of the Church of his day and time. Saint Dominic was always committed to the truth and to preaching the truth.

We feel called to teach the truth through retreats, parish missions, spiritual talks, and spiritual direction as well as having a House of Prayer.

The pillars of our life together are Prayer, Community, Ministry, and Study. "To give to others the fruits of contemplation," is our primary goal. Each day is centered around the Mass and an extended time of Eucharistic adoration as well as the Liturgy of the Hours.

Since Saint Dominic received the rosary from our Blessed Mother we recite the rosary daily and have our Lady as our patroness.

We are empowered by the gifts of the Holy Spirit to proclaim the gospel of JESUS CHRIST!

The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, because HE has anointed me to bring good tidings to the afflicted: "HE has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives; and the opening of the prison to those who are bound." (Is 61:1).

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE CREST OF THE DAUGHTERS OF SAINT DOMINIC.

Black and white are the colors of the Dominican Order and each community has its own crest. As Daughters of Saint Dominic we chose a star and torch to represent our community. For they represent Saint Dominic's call to be a light to the world and to be an instrument of the Holy Spirit.

While Dominic was still in his mother's womb she was given a vision of a dog carrying a lighted torch in its mouth and setting the world on fire.

The Crest of the Daughters of
Saint Dominic

This was to symbolize the fire (The Holy Spirit) that God would set aflame in the hearts of all people who were to hear Dominic preach.

At his baptism, as the holy water was being poured down his head, the noble woman who was holding him saw a star shining from his forehead. This was later confirmed by Sister Cecelia, who knew Dominic personally and in her testimony she said, "From his forehead and between his brows, there shown forth a kind of radiant light, which filled men with respect and love."
